Based in Christchurch, Bournemouth, Dorset. Specialising in Contemporary British Art.
I have painted nearly every day for the past 17 years. My profession is journalism, so writing was my first creative inclination. Then quite suddenly I discovered that for me paint offers greater scope for expression than words.
My work is mostly small intense studies of sea, sky and landscape in oil or water colour. I mainly use a muted palette, relying on the myriad effects of light and subtle colour to draw the viewer’s eye in.
Most of my paintings are inspired by the Dorset coast, and I find that sometimes including weathered manmade structures such as shacks, signs or old posts helps to convey the breath-taking scale, texture and power of the surrounding land, sea and sky.
Seasons make the same views change constantly, so I work all the year round, observing perspectives not just from clifftops, hills and beaches, but also from out on the sea itself, via the deck of my husband’s fishing boat.
