Maja Barker

Maja was born in Sarajevo where she graduated from the University of Fine Arts in 1992. The same year she moved to the UK where she has lived ever since.

Maja’s career had varied from interior design, working in education to interpreting, but the arts and painting have always been the most important role.

Her love of colour, patterns and extensive travelling inspired her to paint fruit and vegetables on a background of joyful fabrics and pottery which are always a feature of her work.

“When people view my work they are struck by the bold and confident use of colour. My subject – fresh fruit and vegetables deserve no less. I use acrylic paints for speed and intensity of colours and I always hope that my work will be uplifting in people’s everyday life.
My use of colour is also influenced by the light and sunshine of the coast of Croatia where I spend my summers.”

Maja’s paintings are in private collections in the UK as well as across Europe, USA and Japan.
