Gallery Info
Hatch Gallery is based in the beautiful ancient harbour town, Christchurch, near Bournemouth in Dorset.
Situated close to the Priory, Hatch specialises in British Contemporary Art, Sculpture, Ceramics and Handcrafted Jewellery.
The name ‘Hatch’ is in reference to Kent artist, Jane Baier who is famous for painting chickens and we have used one of her chickens for our logo. And just a few doors up from the gallery is Church Hatch House, a rare example of Georgian architecture in Christchurch.
Although we represent a wide range of artists and styles, the gallery has a definite leaning towards a coastal theme: boats, beach huts and many seascapes are abundant. We have a busy exhibition schedule throughout the year with the aim of introducing to our clients and visitors, a carefully chosen selection of leading contemporary art.
Not only do we represent nationally and internationally well-known artists, Hatch is also keen to support local artists and create an active artist community in the area. There is a space upstairs known as Hatchling Gallery which is a perfect area for local and emerging artists to showcase their work. For more information about this, contact the gallery direct.
Hatch Gallery can also offer a free advisory service. For those of you unsure about colour and size and what may suit, home visits can be arranged.
We are now open 24/7 with our new online shopping website…give it a go!
The gallery is wheelchair friendly on the ground floor with a wide front door suitable for wheelchair and large pushchair access. There is a small step up into the gallery (5cm) and steep staircase to access space upstairs which is the Hatchling exhibition space and gallery storeroom.
